Adi Shankaracharya traveled the length of India in his short life — he died at 32 — debating every school of philosophy and establishing the non-dual (Advaita) Vedanta as the summit of Indian thought. His central insight: Brahman alone is real, the world is maya (superimposition), and the individual self (Atman) is identical with Brahman. Liberation is not attainment — it is recognition.
